The Moorlanders Motorcycle Club is probably best known for its annual Easter Egg Run in aid of
local children's charities, in fact the club and the egg run have become almost synonymous with
one another.  The information that follows was kindly provided by Richard H who was until recently
chairman of the club, a position now filled by Noddy G.
It all started eleven or so years ago when Mark asked me "what are you doing on Easter Sunday?"
this was quickly followed by "why don't we take some Easter eggs down to the children at Treliske
Hospital ?"
This idea was bandied around during the course of the week and it was agreed that we would meet
up at 2.00 p.m. and ride down to Treliske (about six of us).
On Easter Sunday I was on the early shift and, to my surprise, spent a good part of the morning
taking phone calls enquiring about our trip down to Treliske to take Easter Eggs to the children
there and would we mind if other bikers came along too !
On Easter Sunday at 2.00 ish, 47 motorcycles set off from Davidstow Airfield heading for Treliske
children's ward all armed with Easter eggs.  To this day I have no idea how the word spread of our
impromptu ride and I never cease to be amazed by the way that this event has grown over the
years and the level of support generated for it from within the biking community.  To me this is a
quality within the biking community that many "non-biking" people do not see.  We did not know it
at the time but this was to be the start of the annual Egg Run !
As the following year started people began asking about another bike run at Easter, so we sat
down and made up some flyers, planned a route and on the day over 100 motorcycles turned up
for the rideout.
By the third year over 300 motorcyclists arrived at Davidstow for the Egg Run and this time we also
had support from local businesses in Camelford and Wadebridge and assistance from Bodmin
traffic police.  This year's ride also included a stop at Bodmin Children's Home and a local band
called Sacred Turf volunteered their services so an Easter Bash was put on in the evening.  On the
day we had collected 400 Easter eggs and £250.00
The fourth year nearly 500 eggs were donated and over £800.00 raised.  When a cheque was
presented to the children's home we were asked what we were called and how did we come to
organise the event etc.  We had no name, we were just three normal (almost) people.  So on the
day we became the "Roughtor Riders".  At this point I think it dawned on us that the event had
outgrown the capabilities of the three original organisers and so early in 2001 a meeting was held
to discuss that year's Egg Run.  The result of this meeting was the formation of a motorcycle club:
And so the "Moorlanders MCC" was born
