Egg Runs Past And Future
MOORLANDERS MCC
MOORLANDERS MCC
The Egg Run is an annual event organised by the club and the aims are to provide Easter Eggs to
those people who might not otherwise receive any and to raise much needed funds for local
charities.  We have been humbled and amazed equally by the goodwill and generosity of the
motorcyclists and local people who choose to be involved in our fundraising efforts, without which
the event would not have become as successful as it has.
The Egg Run is usually an annual event, although there have been one or two hiccups in recent
years.  Last year (2008) there was no egg run for a number of reasons, most important of which
was that the club was unable to secure public liability insurance for the event.
The year of the Foot & Mouth outbreak in our region went ahead as usual but started from a
different location (Camelford Car Park) due to the difficulties involved in ensuring that the infection
was not spread from or to the area around Davidstow, which of course is slap bang in the middle of
a large population of moorland animals.  The local farming community had been very supportive of
the run in previous years and did not wish to see it cancelled.
This year’s Egg Run (2009) was a nervous time for all of us at the club as we were unsure how
many people might show up after there not being a run last year.  We needn’t have worried
however as, on a beautiful day with clear blue skies, over 350 motorcyclists turned up
at Davidstow for this year’s run.  The run left Davidstow at 11.00 on the dot and it was a truly
amazing spectacle to see so many bikes and riders heading off towards Bodmin and further to
deliver Easter Eggs to the waiting children.
